Naugatuck Railroad Station Improvements

Naugatuck, CT

Rizzo Corporation is proud to be involved in the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) efforts to deliver a new, modern Naugatuck Railroad Station—an important infrastructure investment that will strengthen downtown connectivity, enhance rider experience, and improve accessibility for the community.

Project Overview

The new Naugatuck Railroad Station is a $33.2 million state-funded initiative that will replace the existing station with a modern facility designed to better serve passengers and integrate seamlessly with downtown Naugatuck. As part of the project, the station will be relocated approximately 0.3 miles south of its current location, near the intersection of Old Firehouse Road and Maple Street, adjacent to the River Greenway. This new location improves pedestrian access, supports local economic activity, and provides a safer, more accessible transit hub.

The project is a key component of CTDOT’s broader $140 million program to modernize all stations along the Waterbury Branch Line, ensuring long-term reliability, safety, and accessibility across the corridor.

Key Features of the New Station

The redesigned Naugatuck Railroad Station will feature:

  • A two-story station building with modern passenger amenities

  • High-level platforms to allow level boarding and improved operational efficiency

  • Snowmelt systems embedded in platforms to enhance winter safety

  • Energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the site

  • Expanded parking facilities, including electric vehicle charging stations

  • Full ADA compliance to ensure accessibility for all riders

Construction activities are being carefully planned to occur primarily during off-peak rail service hours, minimizing disruption to passengers and the surrounding community. The station is currently scheduled to open in Summer 2027.
