Rizzo Health Care Projects

Construction of new patient rooms, pediatric emergency care examination and treatment rooms, office space and employee facilities in existing high traffic patient areas. Work was performed adjacent to a busy fully functioning emergency department, operating suites, patient rooms and a neonatal intensive care unit.

Project included the installation of an emergency power system, rooftop generators, 15,000 gallon fuel tank, a containment piping system, and two new 13,800 full feeder circuits along with the new power distribution system the project affected numerous areas around the hospital, beginning with the installation of footings on the ground floor of the existing structure, installing, structural steel, up through four floors of occupied space, a structural steel platform above the fourth floor roof to support to 2 MW generators and a prefabricated substation. Road closures were coordinated with the city to facilitate the crane assembly. Project was started in June, 2004 and finished three months ahead of schedule in March, 2005.

The Rizzo Corporation completed this project for the Western Connecticut Health Network which consisted of 3 main phases of construction to the Seifort & Ford Community Health Center. Phase 1 consisted of building a new 5,200 sqft addition onto the existing medical building. In Phase 2 major renovation to the entire existing building while medical center remained open. Phase 3 was to completely renovate the back corner of the building to build a new, centralized main lobby area.

The Rizzo Corporation perform the work for this project the Western Connecticut health network, which consisted of three main phases of construction for the health center. Phase 1 was the construction of a new 5200 square-foot addition onto the existing building, which was originally built by Rizzo. Phase 2 included a major renovation to the entire building while the medical center remained opened. Phase 3 renovated a portion of the building for a new, centralized main lobby area.

This two-phase $1,425,000 interior renovation project included a three section "Clean Room" area with all hands free devices, particle counters, HEPA filtration systems and specialized chemical cabinets to create a particle and dirt free environment for work with extremely sensitive pharmaceuticals. The new pharmacy also includes a DEA approved vault for securing medications. The remainder of the 4000 ft.² space was renovated for medication processing, distribution and workspace.

This project required multiphase operations, logistical sensitivity, & secrets coordination in a fast-track environment. Rizzo Corporation was instrumental in communicating the operational requirements to the subcontractor community in order to comply with an intensive schedule and coordination of MEP work. Rizzo mitigated unsuitable soil conditions by installing piles and grade beam construction to support the structure all without disturbing the operations of the hospital. Planning weeks ahead and effort to stay on track. Our proactive management effort served to be beneficial to the client as they succeeded in the reduction of impact from the construction process without interruption to the hospital.

This healthcare project included the renovation of an existing 20,000 ft.² warehouse into an outpatient substance abuse and mental health services center.
